Viktoria stars in TV Series "Derek's Dreams"

Fermanagh man Derek Thornton couldn't swim... couldn't dance... and couldn't cook. Until now!

In a hilarious six-part TV series, we helped Derek fulfil his lifetime's dreams. Viewers saw him learn the doggie paddle at Lisburn baths then don a wetsuit and dive with Great White Sharks in South Africa.

Derek discovered the 'F-word' as top chef Michael Dean helped him trade his Ulster Frys for Nouvelle Cuisine.

You laughed as he swapped his wellies for dancing shoes when Viktoria taught him how to jive.

And you roared as Derek traded his farm in Fermanagh for the buffalo herds of Montana and lived out his dream to follow his cowboy heroes.

Produced by Holywood based Network Media for BBC Northern Ireland, the series also saw Derek trade the cattle mart for a stint at a top estate agency, hungry to close a "big house deal".

And he swapped his tractor seat for a place in the percussion section of the Ulster Orchestra.

"Derek is a typical 57-year-old farmer and hadn't had the time to do much in his life," says producer, Iain Webster.

"But he tackled each new experience with humour and energy, proving you're never too old to learn new tricks!"

Derek's Dreams was a Network Media production for BBC Northern Ireland.
